Monstrous Sentiments
I am drawn to Gothic fiction--each novel depicting individuals oblivious to the dangers that lurked just out of reach. These characters struggle to comprehend the persistent presence of doom and choose to cling to the belief that the past is escapable and the future determinable. Both the agents and victims of the chaos reel in unbelief as their intentions are thwarted and all ties with the familiar are severed.
Yet, they are also optimistic tales about the human drive to carry goodness forward in light of epic circumstances. These images are reflections on the progression of these stories from ignorance, to terror, to hope, ultimately arriving at an exhausted state of wisdom and humility.
